During his life, James filled many roles. He was a loving father to Jaimee Madison Harvey, stepfather to Jessica and Jenna Cook, and husband to Kelly Nunn Harvey. Before his marriage to Kelly, James was married to Kristine Rippy. They have a son together, James Duran Harvey, and he was a stepfather to her two older children, Steven and Shandra. James built a successful restaurant service business in the DFW metroplex, Celtic Restaurant Services, Inc. He serviced hundreds of restaurants locally for over 24 years. This business enabled him to provide for his family and establish a name for himself, givng him great pride in his workmanship. He was a believer in the Lord. James truly loved the Lord with all his heart and often would be found in prayer, seeking answers or clarification. He spent a lot of time studying the bible and had several favorite prayers that he recited by heart. Among those, I have attached a few of his writings as pictures here; I always loved his excellent penmanship. Receiving a card from him was always meaningful. He took time to share his words and was able to express them in such a loving way. James enjoyed drawing, writing, and reading. He spent a lot of his time with family and was protective of those he loved. He gave from his heart and was a talented man with many talents he shared with others. He was original and creative, designed many clever ideas and built a beautiful treehouse for Madi when she was 8. There is a picture here in the gallery. She loved it and they spent time together decorating it. Even installing a television. James parents both passed away before him. He is survived by two sisters, Cheryl Wright and Deborah Van der Westhuizen and a brother, Allan Harvey, who all live in South Africa. Cheryl has two girls, Aimee and Kerri Ann. Aimee is married to Tommy Franklin and they reside in the United States. Kerri Anne lives in Australia with her father, Daryl Wright. Deborah is married to Colin Van der Westhuizen and they have three children. David, who is married to Nicole, Tamlyn- Shea and Shanagh. Allan has four children. Jaryed and Warrick are from his first marriage and are both living with their mother, Leigh. Callan and Tyler live with their mother, Cherese. Most know of his deep love for the ocean. He yearned for the water and for its life and power. I believe it reminded him of home.... Funny enough, he would never swim out with us any deeper than he could stand. He was terrified of sharks. We would tease him about this but he never minded. He would just smile and say, "This is their home." We spent many trips traveling to different oceans and beaches and shared a lot of time in the sunshine. He loved the outdoors, was never afraid to work on my many projects, and finished what he started. James will be missed by many and has left a permanent impression on our lives and hearts.
